Never go Away on Microsoft Teams

Teams flips you to Away after ~5 minutes without touching your device. KeepOnDuty keeps your dot green while you read, review or think.

The problem

Why does Teams mark me Away?

Teams doesn't look at whether you're working inside its window: it reads your operating-system idle time. If you don't move the mouse or keyboard for about 5 minutes, your status flips to “Away” on its own — even while you're reading a document or on another screen.

That's why apps like Caffeine aren't enough: they stop your computer from sleeping, but they don't reset that idle counter. KeepOnDuty does: it produces real mouse movement, so the idle clock resets for Teams — and every other app — at once.

The fix

Your status, always green

  • Stay Available during presentations, long reads and calls where you don't touch the mouse.
  • No Teams integration and no company admin permissions required.
  • Works the same with desktop Teams and Teams in the browser.
  • Schedule work hours (e.g. 9–6) so it only runs during your day.
Features

Full control over your presence

Real movement

Moves the mouse at the operating-system level, not a fake cursor. Resets the inactivity timer for every app at once.

Schedules & work hours

Set your work hours (9–6, Mon–Fri) with simple schedules or cron. Blackouts for your breaks.

Stealth mode

Imperceptible micro-movements, random patterns and adjustable speed for natural behaviour.

Respects your activity

The moment you touch the mouse it steps aside; when you leave, it resumes on its own.

Private & local

Sends nothing to any server. Works 100% offline; everything stays on your device.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why does Teams keep setting my status to Away while I'm actively working?

Because Teams measures system inactivity (mouse and keyboard), not what you do inside its window. If you read or look at another screen without touching your device for ~5 minutes, you go Away. KeepOnDuty generates real activity and prevents that.

How do I stop Teams from showing away after 5 minutes?

Download KeepOnDuty, press Start and set the interval below 5 minutes. It resets the idle counter automatically and your status stays Available.

Do I need to install anything inside Teams or grant weird permissions?

No. KeepOnDuty works at the OS level. It doesn't connect to your Teams account and needs no company admin rights. On Mac you just grant Accessibility once.

Does it work with Teams in the browser and the desktop app?

Yes, with both. Because it resets system-level inactivity, it keeps your presence in any version of Teams at the same time.

Can my company see that I use KeepOnDuty?

KeepOnDuty is local software that sends no data to any server, so it doesn't show up in your Teams account. Even so, use it responsibly and within your company's policies — we cover this in detail in our detection article.

Is it free?

Yes. KeepOnDuty is free, with no sign-up and no ads, for Mac and Windows.
